Aluminum Foil Faced Glass Wool Blanket
Aluminum Foil Faced Glass Wool is a premier thermal and acoustic insulation material composed of long, resilient glass fibers bonded with a thermosetting resin. For steel structure applications, it is laminated with an FSK (Foil-Scrim-Kraft) or Reinforced Aluminum Foil facing to provide a robust vapor barrier and aesthetic interior finish.
High Reflectivity: The aluminum surface reflects over 95% of radiant heat, crucial for projects in high-temperature regions (e.g., West or Central Africa).
Vapor Control: Acts as a continuous barrier to prevent water vapor from migrating into the insulation, eliminating the risk of interstitial condensation.
Acoustic Damping: Significantly reduces "drumming" noise caused by heavy rain on metal roof sheets.
Tensile Strength: The reinforced scrim (fiberglass mesh) allows the blanket to be stretched over purlins without tearing during installation.
These values comply with international standards such as ASTM C553 and EN 13162.

In steel warehouses or factories, the "Over-the-Purlin" method is most common to ensure thermal continuity.
Lay high-tensile galvanized wire mesh or PVC-coated safety mesh over the purlins to act as a support bed for the blanket.
Unroll the glass wool blanket perpendicular to the purlins. Ensure the aluminum foil face is directed toward the interior of the building.
Overlap the foil flanges (50-100mm) and seal all longitudinal and transverse joints with pressure-sensitive Aluminum Foil Tape to ensure a continuous vapor seal.
Install the metal roof panels directly over the insulation. Use thermal spacers (thermal blocks) if necessary to reduce compression at the purlin contact points.
Engineering Note:
For projects in humid climates like the DRC or Ghana, the integrity of the Vapor Barrier Seal is more important than the thickness of the wool. Any gap in the tape allows moist air to bypass the insulation, leading to "roof dripping" (condensation) on the underside of the metal sheets.
